The best part of this is that it's ,000.00 less than the other EFX Helmet on ebay!!!!
This is a series-accurate 1:1 scale replica of the hero Colonial Viper helmet seen on screen in the classic Battlestar Galactica television series.  Scanned from an original screen-used helmet and cast from an original piece, it's made of high-quality fiberglass and resin. This comes with LED lighting effects and special display stand.
It's a must-have for all fans of BSG!
To ensure a faithful reproduction of this iconic helmet, eFX's engineers digitally scanned an original, screen used helmet. The data was then “tweaked” slightly to make the helmet symmetrical. The eagle, microphone and earpieces were cast from original parts. Because of the known, direct pedigree of the source, features like the illuminated “force field.” We are confident you will be proud to display this helmet as the centerpiece of your Battlestar Galactica collection for many years to come.
For our (EFX) replica helmet we were loaned an original hero helmet by a private collector.  The helmet, marked inside as "Starbuck", can been seen in the images above.  Complete with the switch gear, wiring and working incandescent bulbs which surround the upper and lower face plate, the helmet had been used through the filming of the original series.   After the show was cancelled, this helmet was repainted for use in the Universal Studios Tour Battlestar Galactica attraction, and is a different color than originally seen on screen.
Using this hero, we digitally scanned the helmet and passed the data to Mark Costas, our digital modeler, to clean up and correct the asymmetry of the original sculpt and fiberglass casting.
The original Colonial Viper pilot helmet was created in 1977 for a proposed 7-hour ABC mini-series by Glen A. Larson named Battlestar Galactica. The mini-series starred Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch (Apollo), and Dirk Benedict (Starbuck). The original concept sketches of the helmet were drawn by Joe Johnston, who was the Effects Art Director at MCA-57. Its Egyptian inspiration was likely due to the huge success of the "Treasures of Tutankhamun" exhibition (1972-1981) that was touring the
    United States
. In fact, at the time of the start of pre-production, the exhibit was at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
In 1979, Battlestar Galactica won two Emmys for Outstanding Costume Design and Outstanding Individual Achievement - Creative Technical Craft for a series. It was also nominated for Outstanding Art Direction that same year.
The original screen-used helmets were constructed in fiberglass with two rows of light bars. This lighted “force field” was made by casting clear, heat proof urethane resin from two light bar shapes. Holes were then drilled into the light bars for very small, high intensity halogen “inspection” lights. Unfortunately, the actors had to endure the very uncomfortable heat generated by the halogen lights. Ultimately, only four “hero” helmets were made and fitted with these lights.
The series pilot first aired on September 17, 1978. Many of the original helmets were subsequently repurposed for the short lived Galactica 1980 television series and the Universal Studios - Hollywood attraction Battle of Galactica (1979-1992)
In keeping with the concept that life began not on Earth but across the far reaches of the universe and that these scattered tribes of humans may have been the original settlers of our own planet, the design of the Colonial Viper Pilot Helmet from Battlestar Galactica is suggestive of Ancient Egyptian Design.  Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
We are extremely pleased to offer this ultimate Battlestar Galactica collectible!
